| IDNs Exist In A Testbed Environment

VeriSign® Global Registry Services (GRS) offers IDNs as a part of their IDN Testbed.
With over a million domain names currently in the IDN testbed, VeriSign has announced
plans to improve the user experience with IDNs through a complementary set of solutions:
the i-Nav(tm) plug-in and Web-based navigation system. The i-Nav plug-in is available now;
for more information visit www.idnnow.com.

VeriSign opened the Internationalized Domain Name (IDN) Testbed in November 2000 for the
purpose of testing proposed standards for the deployment of IDN technology and to provide
operational experience with those proposed standards.

The VeriSign® Global Registry Services IDN Testbed contributes to the work of the
IDN Working Group of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). This working group's
goal is to specify the requirements for access to domain names in non-English characters
and to specify a protocol based on those requirements. Beyond contributing to the standards
process, VeriSign feels it is incumbent upon them, as the keeper of the definitive database of
names in the .com and .net domains, to catalyze efforts to make these domains available to a wider
Internet community. By expanding the character capabilities of the Domain Name System, VeriSign can
help open the door to Internet and e-commerce opportunities for millions of people.

When you register a domain name in the IDN Testbed, you become a participant in this
important step to "globalize" the Internet.

It is important to recognize that
IDN registrations exist in a VeriSign testbed environment.
The IDN Working Group's effort towards creating standards for IDNs is not yet complete.
Therefore, future revisions to the Internet draft documents may result in modification to
the internal representation of domain names in the Testbed. Changes to the Internet draft documents
during the Testbed could even result in some IDNs becoming invalid as they contain illegal characters.
VeriSign will make every feasible effort to keep all registrations valid through the testbed period, but
no guarantees can be made.
